Several months ago I wanted to use an autoresponder to capture visitors to a site I was building. I was thinking maybe I'll just use a free autoresponder and save a few bucks. Well, one that I tried had additional code that I couldn't remove from my form. That made it difficult to customize it to fit on the page the way I wanted. There wasn't much support, I was told to go to a forum and search for answers there, that really didn't help.
The next one I tried seemed to work alright...in the beginning. About a week later I noticed that the code on the website for the capture form wasn't working. Then when I tried to login to my autoresponder account the entire site was gone! It was like it was never there! Needless to say I don't use them anymore either.
With my current autoreponder service I don't have to worry about that type of instability. They've been around since 2000 and have been effective in maintining high deliverability rates at an affordable flat monthly rate.
I'm not saying that all free autoresponder services are bad, but I personally don't have the time or patience to hope my service doesn't stop working or disappear. After all that can cost you not only time, but money as well. And that's REALLY scary!

When you set up your initial report, you may have about 10 or so messages in this particular email campaign. Once your subscribers have received them all you need to continue to keep in touch with them afterwards.
For continued updates you can send what are called email blasts or broadcast messages which get sent out individually to your entire subscriber list. These emails can be industry related news that may be of interest that ties directly to a reminder about your business, a coupons, freebies or helpful tips. Over time you want to deliver information that your list members will be eager to read and give them an incentive to remain long term subscribers.

When setting up an AutoResponder Campaign you'll need to figure out what to write in your messages. Take inventory of subjects that your clients or prospects have expressed interest in, or topics that fit your expertise. Come up with 7-12 messages for your campaign. The first message should be set up to go out immediately after your visitor first subscribes. The next 4-7 messages can be set up to go out daily, then the remainder every 2 days.

With email marketing it's always a good idea to have a way to capture visitors that come to your site. Not necessarily the way fishermen use a net, but by using a capture form. If you don't have some type of capture form available for them to request more information, then you're leaving money on the table. Once someone leaves your site, you don't know whether they'll return. A capture form provides an opportunity for you to connect with a prospect with details on your buiness or opportunity.

If you're emailing your subscribers that want to hear about your restaurant, don't also decide to promote your brother's auto parts shop. Your members specifically chose to receive information about your business and industry.
Don't Write A Novel
Average length of each email should be 2-4 paragraphs. You don't want to bore your subscribers with long winded messages they won't feel like reading.
Call To Action
Make sure your readers understand what you want them to do next. Whether it's click a specific link or complete a form, provide specific instructions.

There is often a tendency to want to do things the quick and easy way. That happens to me, too! But with building a mailing list, buying one ready made can be like throwing your money away. Many autoresponder services, including the one I use, will terminate your account if you attempt to use a list you purchase. You can easily be accused of spamming since none of the people on the list are familiar with you or your service. Technically, having someone become a subscriber to your list means they have actually agreed to receive messages from you.
